Description
This Quaker burial ground dates to 1656 and is situated just north of the private house, Quakers. It is roughly square, oriented with its corners generally aligned with the cardinal directions. The burial ground is enclosed by roughly coursed limestone rubble walls ranging in height from 1.5 to 2.2 metres. The walls are topped with lengths of cock and hen capping, with one section of the north-east wall utilizing unusually large blocks, and some sections having plain mortar capping. A portion of the south-east wall was rebuilt around 2018.
An entrance is located at the south-east corner, formed by a break in the wall containing a pair of double doors. These double plank doors are fitted with strap hinges featuring scroll details and are set within a wide, moulded oak architrave. A timber structure above supports a narrow roof over the doorway. A plaque adjacent to the doors is inscribed 'FRIENDS BURIAL / GROUND 1656', likely dating to the 18th century.
