Description

Church Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with 19th century and later additions and alterations. The building features rubble on the right side, brick on the left, and is rendered at the front and sides. It has a pantiled roof with gable stacks and an attached stable wing with a double Roman tiled roof. The farmhouse originally had a through passage plan and is two storeys high with three windows. The ground and first floors on the left have 16-pane sash windows, while all sash windows on the right have cambered heads. The second bay from the left includes a gabled porch with bargeboards and a finial, leading to a door with two raised panels.

On the east elevation, there is a two-light casement window at attic level. The stable, which is three bays long, has a cart entry and three 4-pane sashes above, all with gauged brick segmental heads and surrounds, and brick quoins. The stable was raised in height in the 19th century. The rear of the farmhouse features an external tower with a hipped roof, possibly for a former stair, and a catslide roof on a 20th century addition, which includes single storey rear additions with all 20th century windows and doors.

Inside, there is a straight stair leading to the first floor, with a winder stair to the attic that has plank and batten doors at attic level. The roof structure is visible with three bays, including a tie-beam and collar, plated yoke, and two rows of purlins. There are cheese racks and a small window between the attics, which was formerly external, featuring leaded lights and a loop catch. The ground floor has a chamfered beam with scroll stops.
