Description
Severn Lodge Farmhouse is a late 18th-century farmhouse, with 19th-century and later alterations. It is constructed of rubble, rendered and scored to resemble ashlar, with stone dressings. The roof is slate, featuring a mansard form, raised coped verges, and brick gable stacks. A wrought iron balcony with a lead roof runs along the front of the first floor, although it was in poor condition at the time of survey in July 1984, with some wrought iron panels missing. The front of the house is symmetrical, with a central 6-panelled door in a plain surround, topped with a decorative fanlight. Flanking the door are 16-pane boxed sash windows on the ground floor, and a central boxed sash window and two large 4-pane casements on the first floor. Other features include a plinth, cornice, parapet and coping. The west elevation has an opening and window at cellar level, a sash window at the first floor, and two 4-pane fixed windows in the attic. The east elevation has a single-storey extension and a 6-pane sash window at the first floor and attic. The rear of the house is irregular, with various windows including a tall sash with a round head and radial glazing bars illuminating the staircase. A two-storey extension with a pitched roof includes two sashes at the first floor. Inside, the farmhouse features 6-panelled doors and a straight staircase located at the rear of the entrance hall.
