Description
Clematis Cottage is a building with origins dating back to the 15th century, which underwent alterations in the 16th and 17th centuries, and further changes and extensions in the 18th century. It was once part of a long property that included the adjoining No 17. The exterior is rendered and features a double Roman tiled roof. The cottage has two storeys and three windows, which include glazing bar sashes in exposed boxes, along with one casement window to the right in the lower section. On the ground floor, there is a 16-pane sash window and a central 19th-century bay window with a six-panel door and a lattice porch.
Inside, the roof consists of five collar beam trusses, three of which have curved queen posts and curved windbraces. The ground floor showcases chamfered and moulded beams, with one beam above the door having lead stairs attached. The hall features small square panels from the late 16th or early 17th century. The cottage is reputed to have been an ecclesiastical establishment.
