Description

The Old Rectory is a house and cottage that was originally a single dwelling, dating from the 17th century and altered in the 18th century. It has a varied history of extensions and demolitions, and may have an earlier core. The building is constructed of dressed coursed rubble with ashlar quoins and features a concrete pantile roof. It has two rendered ridge stacks, stone coped gables, and kneelers, all set on a plinth.

The structure is L-shaped with extensions and consists of three bays. The outer bays are slightly projecting, two storeys high with an attic, while the central bay is a single storey. The central doorway features part glazed double doors with a 17th-century ashlar surround, including a recessed panel above the door with a depressed arch. Above this is a modillion cornice that supports a shaped hood. To the right of the doorway is a single glazing bar French window with a glazing bar overlight, and to the left is a single glazing bar sash window. Above the central bay are three glazing bar sashes. In the left attic, there is a four-light glazing bar casement, and in the right attic, there is a two-light glazing bar casement.

The east side of the building has two storeys and five bays, with stone coped gables and kneelers. The centre features a pediment with stone coping and kneelers, marking the gable end of a cross wing. There is a single rendered red brick stack on the right gable. A single 20th-century glazing bar French door with a glazing bar overlight is present, along with two narrow glazing bar sashes to the left and two more glazing bar sashes to the right. Above this section are five glazing bar sashes, with a single casement in the pediment. There is an extension line two bays in from the right.
