Description
Box Cottage is a house dating from the mid-18th century, with later alterations and additions. The front is made of limestone ashlar, while the left addition is constructed from rubble with stone dressings, and the roof is slate with gable stacks. The building has two storeys and three windows, all of which are sash windows. The central window on the first floor is blocked and painted over. There is a central Doric portico with a pediment and a 20th-century door. The exterior features a plinth, band course, cornice, parapet, and coping.
Attached to the left is an early 19th-century two-storey block with a hipped roof, which includes an 18-pane sash window at the ground floor and another sash window under the eaves. There is also a single-storey addition with a pitched roof that has a two-light casement window. The left side of the building has a 20th-century attic window for the main house, along with 20th-century windows at the ground and first floors of the additions. The right side features a two-light attic casement window with a flat mullion, and a two-storey rear addition that has 20th-century windows on both the ground and first floors. The rear of the building has three windows, all of which are from the 20th century. The interior has not been inspected.
