Description

This pair of estate cottages, dated "AD 1858", is located 125 yards northwest of Downlands. They are constructed from coursed, squared rubble with freestone dressings and quoins, topped with a Cotswold stone slate roof featuring overhanging eaves. The cottages exhibit a Plain Tudor Gothic style and are two storeys high, with a layout of 1:2 (in an advanced double gabled centre):1 bays. The windows are 2- and 3-light casements set under relieving arches, with the central two featuring a decorative diamond glazing pattern. The outer bays have panelled doors with a doorcase that has a segmental head, and there are open lean-to porches. The centre gables display shields bearing the date on the north side and a "B" (for Beaufort) under a coronet on the south side. At the rear, there are single storey outbuildings, a privvy, and an ash house.
