Description
This pair of estate cottages, dated "AD 1859," is located 70 yards northwest of Downlands. They are constructed from coursed squared rubble with freestone dressings and quoins, topped with a Cotswold stone slate roof featuring overhanging eaves, decorative cut bargeboards, and finials at the gables. The cottages are designed in a plain Tudor Gothic style and rise to two storeys, arranged in a 1:2:1 bay pattern with an advanced double gabled center. The windows are 2- and 3-light casements set under relieving arches, with the central two windows showcasing a decorative diamond glazing pattern. Panelled doors are found in the outer bays, framed by a doorcase with a segmental head and open lean-to porches. The central gables display shields bearing the date on the north side and a "B" (for Beaufort) under a coronet on the south side. At the rear, there are single storey outbuildings, a privy, and an ash house.
