Description
Downlands and the adjoining cottage, including single storey outbuildings, privy, and ash house, are a pair of estate cottages dated "AD 1862". They are built from coursed squared rubble with freestone dressings and quoins, and feature a Cotswold stone slate roof with overhanging eaves and plain bargeboards. The cottages are designed in a plain Tudor Gothic style and stand two storeys tall. The facade is arranged in a 1:2 (with an advanced centre featuring two gables) :1 bay configuration. There are 2- and 3-light casement windows under relieving arches, with the two central windows showcasing a decorative diamond glazing pattern. Panelled doors are located in the outer bays and are set under open lean-to porches, with a doorcase that has a segmental head. The central gables display shields bearing the date on the north side and a 'B' (for Beaufort) under a coronet on the south side. Additionally, there are 2-light windows in the end gables. At the rear, there are single storey outbuildings, a privy, and an ash house.
