Description
No. 12 Buckwell Street is a merchant's house dating from the late 17th century, with a front that was restored in the 20th century. The building has stone rubble side walls and a timber frame that is rendered at the front. It features a dry slate roof that is hipped and has a deep projection at the front. There are slate-roofed hoods over floor projections that resemble jetties on all floors below. The house has tall rendered lateral stacks on the left-hand wall and a rear gable stack. It has a deep narrow plan and is oriented end on to the street. The building is four storeys high with a one-window range. The windows are two-light wooden mullions, likely copies of the original windows, with those on the first and second floors featuring transoms and glazing bars. The ground floor includes a fascia above an eight-pane shop window and a shop doorway located on the right. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to retain original features of interest.
