Description
Woodbine and Bryntirion are an unequal pair of villas built in the mid-19th century. They are constructed of stucco with stucco detailing and feature dry slate hipped roofs with moulded eaves cornices, including modillions on the front blocks. The buildings have stuccoed end stacks with moulded cornices and a double-depth overall U-shaped plan.
The exterior consists of two storeys, with entrance fronts at the left and right-hand returns of the front blocks, each featuring central porches. The right-hand entrance front of Bryntirion has original sash windows with glazing bars set within moulded architraves on bracketed sills. It also includes a pilastered porch with a moulded entablature and pilastered openings on either side of the doorway, each topped with moulded hoods on brackets. Woodbine has a larger porch with a balustraded parapet.
The garden front has four bays, showcasing triple round-arched windows on the left and paired sashes on the right, above canted pilastered bays with moulded cornices. Other windows are set within moulded architraves with sill brackets above pilastered doorways, which also feature moulded hoods on brackets. The road front, which is the rear of the house, has a window arrangement of 2:2:0.
The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest. These villas are part of a notable group in Mannamead, which was developed after 1851.
