Description

The Ferns is a detached villa dating from the mid-19th century, situated within the Mannamead area of Plymouth. It was constructed as one of a group of villas developed following 1851. The villa is constructed of stucco with a dry slate hipped roof featuring a dentilled eaves cornice, and has stuccoed end stacks. The building follows a double-depth plan, likely containing two rooms at the front flanking a central entrance hall. The symmetrical three-bay front has the central bay broken forward and topped with a triangular pediment that has dentilled cornices. The upper floor features four-pane sashes, while the ground floor incorporates canted bay windows to the left and right, with a moulded cornice linked to a string course. A central porch features a rusticated round-arched doorway with cast-iron railings extending to a parapet above. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
