Description

Wentworth House and Wentworth Cottage are a mid-19th century villa built in stucco with stucco detailing. The building has dry slate hipped roofs with modillion eaves cornices, cast-iron ogee gutters, and stuccoed stacks with moulded cornices. It follows a double-depth plan.

The main building has two storeys and a two-by-three window front. It features original hornless sashes with glazing bars on the first floor, while other windows have horns. Most windows are topped with moulded hoods on carved consoles, with sills on brackets. Bay windows, including one on the right-hand return, feature moulded entablatures. The cottage, located to the left, has a doorway towards the right end of a regular pattern of windows. The main house includes a centrally placed, pilastered round-arched doorway, a bay window on the left, and a blind window above a blind, pilastered window on the right. Other details include a plinth, rusticated quoins, and a mid-floor string. The right-hand return mirrors the detailing of the front facade.

The interior has not been inspected, but it is likely to reflect the high quality of the exterior. Wentworth House and Wentworth Cottage represent one of the finest examples of a group of villas constructed between the 1850s and 1870s.
