Description
Lewens Lane 1 is a house that underwent remodelling and extension in the mid-19th century, originally built as an earlier structure. It features rendered walls and a slate roof, standing two storeys high. The main facade facing Lewens Lane has two gables, with the larger gable on the north side ending in a projecting rear wing. The central doorway has a round-headed panelled door topped with a flat hood supported by ornamental console brackets. On the ground floor, there are two double-hung sash windows set in raised rendered surrounds with pedimented hoods. The first floor has two similar windows, along with a double-hung sash window in a plain surround above the door. The side (north) elevation includes an ornamental timber verandah with a glass roof, featuring three pairs of French doors on the ground floor and three double-hung sash windows on the first floor. Additionally, No. 1 incorporates remnants of an older cob wall building, which has a lower roof that remains visible beneath the mid-19th century roof and extends into the adjacent No. 2 Lewens Lane on the right.
