Description

7 and 9 Fambridge Road is a house that has been divided into two dwellings. It dates from the 17th century and has been altered and extended in the 18th to 20th centuries. The building is timber-framed, rendered, and partially weatherboarded, with a red brick extension and tiled roofs, except for a slate roof on the lean-to extension. Originally, it had a two-bay central lobby-entry plan, which is now divided in the center, with two adjoining parallel cross-wings at the rear and a circa 1900 rear extension to No. 9.

The exterior was originally one storey with an attic, but it was raised to two full storeys under a hipped roof in the 18th century. The front features a two-window range. No. 7 has a 20th-century six-panel door in a uPVC surround beneath an 18th-century open pediment, with one two-pane 20th-century sash window on each floor and a small two-pane sash window on the lean-to extension to the left. No. 9 has a four-panel door in an open-pedimented doorcase, with one sash window on each floor featuring margin glazing, a moulded architrave, and a sill. The render is lined out, and the side wall is weatherboarded to about 2 meters. The rear wing has a half-hipped roof and one leaded-light iron casement window on the first floor, with margin glazed sashes on the circa 1900 two-storey extension.

Inside, there is a chamfered spine beam and an original stair located at the rear of the stack.
