Description

The Bower, located on London Road in Maldon, is a house dating from the early 19th century. It features a timber-framed structure that is rendered, topped with hipped slate roofs and three brick stacks. The building has a square plan with a well roof and single-storey wings extending to the north-west and south-east.

The exterior stands two storeys tall and has a three-window range. On the first floor, there are 12-pane sash windows with moulded surrounds. The ground floor includes a lattice-work porch with a glazed tent roof that encloses a 12-pane sash window and a door featuring a reeded architrave and fanlight above. There is also a large 19th-century semicircular bow window with a flat roof and an additional 12-pane sash window. The front of the south-east wing has a 20th-century two-light window along with two 6-pane sashes, while the north-west wing features two pairs of small-paned French windows. The rear elevation's first floor has three 12-pane sash windows, one of which is raised high under the eaves. Additionally, there is a lean-to conservatory on the north-west flank and a tall gabled extension on the south-west flank. The interior has not been inspected.
