Description
12 High Street is a shop that dates back to the 16th century or earlier. It features a timber-framed structure with a rendered exterior and a gabled plain tile roof. The building has a right-angle plan and is attached to the roof of the adjacent No. 14.
On the exterior, it is two stories tall with a former parlour or solar cross-wing that has a gable facing the street. The first floor includes a two-light casement window with six large panes. The ground floor has a 20th-century shop front, which features a fascia and side pilasters of similar size, along with a central slightly recessed door flanked by canted display windows. At the rear, there is a 20th-century extension with a gabled slate roof and an oriel casement window overlooking the rear yard.
Inside, parts of the timber frame are exposed, showcasing a spine beam and substantial floor joists that are squarish in proportion. A parlour door with an arched doorhead is located in the north-east flank and can be viewed from the interior of No. 14.
