Description
23 Bird Street is a shop that likely dates back to the 15th century, with alterations made in the 18th century and additional changes later on. The building features a brick front that covers a timber frame and has a tiled roof with a brick stack positioned across the axis. It is designed in an L-shape and consists of two storeys with a three-window range. The top has a modillioned brick cornice. The entrance is framed by incised pilaster strips and includes an overlight above paired half-glazed doors. To the right, there is a round-headed entry with a brick tympanum above a five-panel door, flanked by plate glass shop windows, all beneath a frieze and cornice. On the first floor, the windows have sills and timber lintels, featuring small-paned casements with iron opening casements. At the rear, there is a gabled wing.
Inside, there are significant remains of three bays of timber framing, including tie beams, posts, braces, and parts of the former external rear wall.
