Description
No. 24 Bird Street is a Georgian house, now used as offices, built around 1790. It is constructed of brick with ashlar dressings and has a tile roof with a brick end stack. The building features a double-depth plan and is designed in the Georgian style. It has a plaster plinth, a top cornice, and a blocking course. This tall structure has three storeys and a three-window range. The entrance, located at the left end, includes a doorcase with pilasters and a consoled cornice, along with an overlight shaped like a radial-bar fan above paired three-fielded-panel doors. There are steps leading up to the entrance, with plain iron handrails, one of which is from the 20th century. The windows have sills and rubbed brick flat arches, with 12-pane sash windows on the first and ground floors, and 9-pane sashes on the second floor. The rear of the building features a long gabled wing with casement windows to the right of large 16-pane sashes and a 4/8-pane sash on the second floor. Inside, there are window shutters, a dogleg staircase with stick balusters and a wreathed handrail. The first-floor front room has an entablature with scrolled enrichment on the frieze, which includes a motif of the Prince of Wales feathers.
