Description
North Cottage is a house that has been divided into two separate homes. It dates from the 17th century, with extensions from the 19th century and alterations made in the 20th century. The building features a painted timber frame and painted render, topped with a slate roof. There are painted brick and plain 20th-century integral brick stacks. Originally, it had a two-framed bay and a cross wing, which have now been split into two units, each with an end extension.
The exterior is single storey with an attic, facing north. No.1 North Cottage is on the right and No.2 North Cottage is on the left. No.1 has an original single-bay framed cross wing with square framing that is three panels high, which has been extensively renewed with painted render. It features 20th-century casements and an entrance door, along with a 20th-century dormer. There is a 19th-century gabled extension wing to the right, which has 20th-century casements and brick that is painted to imitate framing. The rear of No.1 shows square framing that is three panels high, with 20th-century casements and a dormer.
No.2 retains its original gable end with square framing that has been extensively renewed with painted render and includes 20th-century casements. To the left, there is a 20th-century wing with painted imitation framing and an entrance door in the gable end. The rear of No.2 features a framed gable with square framing that is three panels high, a straight tie beam, and a collar, with a single trenched purlin roof visible. It also has 20th-century casements and a tension brace in the return side. The interior has not been inspected.
