Description

Caynham Court is a country house dating from the 18th century, with alterations and extensions added in 1852. It is constructed of brick and rendered brick, featuring a dentil cornice and a rendered parapet wall. A continuous brick string course runs along the first floor, and the roof is slate with a flat-roofed glazed belvedere. There are several brick and rendered brick stacks. The house follows an H-plan with projecting wings.

The south-western front facade has three bays on the first floor, flanked by projecting wings. A central stone portico with a Doric entablature supported by Tuscan columns provides an entrance. The projecting wings incorporate an 18th-century advanced bay and a mid-19th century projecting three-storey canted bay with sashes on each face. The south-eastern return side features a four-window range, with some first-floor windows bricked up and altered; a projecting mid-19th century two-storey canted bay with sashes on each face is located to the right. A single-storey brick bay with French windows and side lights is advanced to the left on the ground floor. The left return side shows a five-window range, some windows being imitation blanks. The ground floor here was altered in the mid-19th century, incorporating a single-storey wing with a mid-19th century altered entrance door and portico supported on Tuscan columns and pilasters. Further mid-19th century two-storey extensions are to the left. The rear elevation has a central projecting two-storey wing with a four-window range, and a three-storey two-window range to the right; further mid-19th century extensions project to the extreme right.

The interior has not been inspected.
