Description

Northbrook House is a small country house dating from the 18th century, with alterations made in the early 19th century. It is constructed of brick with colour-washed stucco and has a slate roof. The south front is two storeys high with five bays, and flanking bays that project slightly under the main roof. Single-storey wings, dating to the 19th century, extend to each side, with the left wing incorporating a service range. A central 18th-century six-panelled door is topped with a semi-circular fanlight and sheltered by a wide, modified Doric porch. All windows are from the early 19th century, featuring four-light mullions and transoms, with contemporary casements. The ground floor windows have low cills. The wings have early 19th-century three-windowed bows, mirroring the style of the main house, and are finished with a cornice and parapet; the right wing’s parapet extends along its entire length, concealing the eaves. The roof is hipped and low-pitched with wide, flat eaves. Rendered stacks are located at either end of the main building and on the ridge, in line with the projection of the flanking bays. A 19th-century wing is located at the rear.
