Description

Caynham New Bridge is a road bridge over the Ledwyche Brook, built in 1824 to replace an earlier structure. Designed by John Straphen, it features coursed rubble with ashlar dressings. The bridge has a single-span segmental arch and swept approach walls. The arch is made of ashlar voussoirs, and the spandrels are constructed from coursed rubble with an ashlar string course above. The parapet has weathered ashlar coping, and there are piers with coping at the ends of the approach walls. A benchmark is located on the south parapet coping.
