Description

Two headstones located approximately 3 meters south of the east end of the Church of St Nicholas in Weymouth date from the early 19th century and are made of Portland stone. The first headstone, which is closer to the chancel wall, commemorates George, although the dates are not deciphered. It features a bold counter-curved top with a low relief carving of an urn and sarcophagus above a plain inscription panel. The second headstone, adjacent to the first, is taller with a slightly rounded top and displays a high relief carving of military emblems. This monument includes an inscription referencing Trumpeter Melchior and others, and it was erected in 1807.
