Description

The Old Farmhouse is a former farmhouse with origins dating back to the 17th century, although most of its features are from the 18th and early 19th centuries. The building has rubble walls and a concrete tile roof. The original farmhouse is a tall gabled structure with a steep roof pitch, positioned parallel to the pavement edge, and both ends are heated. Attached to the right is a later building, set back slightly and oriented at right angles to the original range. This later section has a very steep hipped roof that slopes down to one storey at the road end, and features a large external lateral stack on the north side.

The exterior of the early block consists of two storeys with two windows on each level. On the left, there are paired sash windows with a central mullion, while on the right, there are tripartite sashes with 4:16:4 panes and mullion boxes, all set beneath flat segmental heads with stone voussoirs. Each gable is topped with a Portland stone ashlar stack, with the right-hand stack also having a brickwork section. The later range includes a large 16-pane sash window in a flush box, topped with a stone moulded label course. The pavement is nearly at sill level for this window and the one immediately to its left in the earlier block.

The return front on the north side, accessed by steps down from the pavement, features two 12-pane sashes in flush boxes above a 2-light casement with a concrete lintel, and a 19th-century panelled door with a fanlight in an arched opening with a flush surround. The lateral stack has been raised in 18th-century brickwork. At the rear, facing the garden, there is a full-height hexagonal bay with 12 and 16-pane sashes. The interior has not been inspected. To the left of the street frontage is a lower building, likely part of the original farmhouse, which is now a separate dwelling known as No.623 Broadwey Cottage.
