Description
Nos 71 and 73 are a pair of cottages located at the end of a terrace on the corner of Melancholy Lane, with a date stone indicating they were built in 1719 in the rear wing of No 71. The cottages feature brick walls and tiled roofs with stone eaves courses, along with brick end and centre stacks. The south section of No 73 appears to have been rebuilt at the front. They are one storey with attics and have brick porches with tiled lean-to roofs and stone eaves courses.
No 71 has a part-glazed door and the ground floor includes two casement windows with glazing bars set under segmental arches. The attic features two gabled dormers with similar casements. The rear wing of No 71 has part-plastered walls and a tiled roof. No 73 has a 20th-century glazed door, three casement windows with glazing bars on the ground floor, and three gabled dormers with similar casements in the attic.
