Description
Nos 10 and 11 on St John's Street are a pair of cottages located at the end of a terrace, dating from the early 18th century. They are constructed of rubble stone with a slate roof and brick end stacks, both of which have been renewed on No 10. The cottages are two storeys high with a single front range and rear extensions. Each cottage features two windows, which are 2-light casements; No 11 has metal lintels while No 10 has wooden ones. On the ground floor, there is one large multi-pane window for each cottage, both with timber lintels. The central doors consist of four flush panels for No 11 and four deep fielded panels on the upper half of No 10, both with chamfered timber lintels. These cottages, along with Nos 1 and 2 at the other end of the terrace, are among the least altered in a row that likely dates from the late 17th or early 18th century and are believed to have been tied cottages for the former Lechlade Manor, which has since been demolished.
