Description

Two attached estate cottages, dating from 1854. They are positioned in Higher Kingston Russell, near Kingston Russell. The cottages were built with broad, Flemish-bond brick walls and have rusticated dressed stone quoins. A ducal coronet is incorporated into the rusticated and gabled brickwork on the south gable end, with the date "B 1854." The roofs are slate, with projecting eaves and a central brick stack on the ridge. Diagonal brick stacks, set on a plinth and featuring moulded cornices, are also present. The cottages are two storeys high and have two windows on the front elevation. The ground floor windows are contemporary 3-light wooden casements, while those above are 2-light casements. All windows are set within segmental brick arches. Plank front doors are located at both ends of the west wall, enclosed by 19th-century wooden frames. Wooden porches with trellis sides and gabled slate roofs are attached to the front doors. Rear service wings, constructed of brick with gabled slate roofs, are attached to the rear of the cottages.
