Description
Bottle Knap Cottage is a detached cottage dating from the mid-17th century. It features rubble stone and chalk block walls, topped with a thatch roof that is half-hipped on the left side and gabled on the right. There are 18th-century brick stacks located at the ridge, to the right of center, and at the right gable. The cottage has two storeys and three windows, which are 2-light wooden casements with glazing bars from the 19th century. The two upper windows have fixed lead lights and wooden lintels above them.
There are two doorways towards the left end of the building; one is a plank door with a wooden frame that leads into a former dairy, while the other, located to the right of center, is a flush-panelled door with six top lights and a wooden frame, also from the 19th century. At the right end of the cottage, there is an attached apple-store made of rubble stone, featuring a pentice roof of corrugated iron and a plank door made of wide planks.
Inside, there is a well in the former dairy. The ceiling beam has a straight chamfer with a filleted stop, and there is a fireplace with a cambered wooden lintel to the left side. To the right gable, there is a 19th-century fireplace with a cast-iron framing.
