Description

These are a group of four attached estate cottages, built in 1867 for the Duke of Bedford’s estate. The cottages are constructed of coursed rubble stone with dressed stone quoins and window surrounds. They have slate roofs, hipped towards a central projecting bay, with rubble and dressed stone stacks on the ridge towards the left and right ends, and centrally between the hips. The cottages have two storeys and six windows, each with two-light cast-iron casements containing glazing bars. Dressed stone voussoirs feature above the windows, along with stone sills. There are doorways with 19th-century flush-panelled doors and fanlights, situated on the north and south ends, and within the angles of the central bay. Stone-built porches with gabled and hipped slate roofs are present. The north and south gable ends are marked with a ducal coronet.
