Description

Kingston Russell Farmhouse is a detached farmhouse dating from the mid-18th century. It features red brick walls laid in Flemish bond, with rusticated stone quoins and an ashlar stone plinth. The roof is slate with stone gable copings, levelled and adorned with scrolled kneelers, and there are brick stacks at each gable end. The house has a T-plan layout, with a 20th-century wing added parallel to the 18th-century rear wing on the east side.

The south elevation has two storeys and three windows, featuring tripartite sashes with glazing bars and crown glass. The windows are topped with gauged brick arches and projecting white keystones, and they have stone cills. There are three 20th-century dormers with 2-light casements that also have glazing bars. The front doorway is centrally located and accessed by eight stone steps. It has a Gibbs surround made of alternating brick and stone, leading into a semi-circular head with a projecting dropped keystone that supports a moulded cornice with a stone pediment, carried on two large volute brackets. The spandrels are made of rubbed brick.

At the rear, there is a service range built with the same materials, also two storeys high with three windows that have similar sash detailing. A doorway on the west side features a gauged brick head and a projecting keystone, with a 20th-century plank door. In the north-west angle, there is a small gabled wing from the 18th century, which has a rendered upper storey and stone coping. Its door is flush-panelled with four upper lights and a keystone above. An early 20th-century east range has brick walls and three gables with slate roofs, also two storeys high, featuring four windows with 2- and 3-light 20th-century casements. The front door is located on the left side at ground level. The interior of the farmhouse is not of special interest.
