Description
7 and 8 St Alban Street is a pair of houses with a shop, built in the early 19th century. The buildings feature painted brickwork or render and have a slate roof. They are two storeys high with an attic, each having one window.
On the left, there is a low two-storey section made of painted brick, which includes a four-pane sash window in a moulded box above a 20th-century shop front framed by a moulded architrave. A small plinth runs across the full width of the property, and there are small dentilled eaves.
The right half of the building, which is connected to No. 9, has a mansard roof with a two-light small-pane casement raking dormer and part of a second dormer, primarily located on No. 9. This section features a bold canted oriel window with an arrangement of 8:12:8-pane sashes above a wide plate-glass shop front that is slightly set forward.
To the right, there is a 20th-century glazed door set in deep reveals with a moulded stone architrave, accessed by one step. The ground floor of No. 8 has a flat hood with a moulded edge, and above the doorway, there are two console brackets. The eaves are adorned with a moulded entablature that wraps around the oriel and is topped with a cast-iron ogee gutter. The chimney stack is located at the gable end of No. 8. The interior has not been inspected.
