Description

This is a pair of early 19th-century houses with shops, situated in a row on St Alban Street, Weymouth. The houses are constructed of painted brickwork and have an asbestos-cement slate mansard roof. Each house is two storeys and has an attic. They each feature a single window, with a flat-roofed dormer containing a 4-pane sash and a 2-light casement window above a two-storey bow. The first floor windows are 8:12:8-pane sashes. The ground floor of number 2 has a shop front with sash-box mullions and a mid-height glazing bar. Number 3 has a 6-pane bow window set beneath an ovolo-mould cornice and frieze. Each house has an arched doorway leading to a 6-panel fielded door (part-glazed in number 3), set behind two nosed steps. Other features include a small plinth, a simple cornice with paired brick dentils, a high blocking course cut down opposite each dormer, and a parapet. A central ridge stack is present. The interior of the houses was not inspected.
