Description

These are two houses with former ground-floor shops, likely dating to the early 19th century, although they probably have a core dating back to the 18th century. The front of the building is colourwashed brick, but the facade has been plastered and lined to resemble ashlar. The roof is slate-covered. The houses are two stories high and have four windows each, with sash windows containing glazing bars within flush frames. Above each window is a gable with shaped bargeboards and spike and drop finials. Number 27 has a three-light bow shop window with curved, small-pane sashes and a cornice. It also features a six-panel door, with the upper two panels glazed, and a later 19th-century gabled hood supported by shaped brackets. Number 29 has a particularly fine double bow shop window, each section containing 36 panes, and a central panelled door that was originally glazed. A continuous fluted frieze runs along the front, topped by a cornice with dentils and modillions.
