Description
The Suffolk Poacher is a former coaching inn, now a public house, located on the north side of High Street, Wangford. The building incorporates an 18th-century core with a largely Early 19th-century facade. It has an L-shaped plan, with various extensions at the rear. The main structure is timber-framed, although it was likely partly rebuilt in brick and subsequently plastered. The roof is hipped and covered with glazed black pantiles. The front elevation has two storeys and five windows, featuring inset sash windows with glazing bars. A central doorway is accessed by a mid-20th century four-panel door, the upper two panels glazed, and is flanked by heavy Tuscan pilasters and a stucco entablature. A modern semi-circular headed window sits to the left of the doorway, and a blocked doorway is to the left of this. The return side of the building features the remains of a plaster cove eaves cornice.
