Description
The Wangford and Henham War Memorial is a First World War memorial that was unveiled around 1919, with additional names added after the Second World War and the Korean War.
Constructed from roughly-hewn Cornish granite, the memorial is square in shape and features leaded lettering. It is located within the churchyard, approximately 20 meters north of the Grade I Church of St Peter and St Paul, and is enclosed by low stone edging. The memorial stands about 3 meters tall and consists of a Celtic wheel-cross with a tapering shaft, set on a trapezoidal plinth that has a single-stepped square base.
On the west face of the plinth, there is a recessed panel with the inscription: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD,/ IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THE/ MEN OF WANGFORD AND HENHAM, WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR. 1914–1918/ (24 NAMES)/ 1939–1945/ “THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE”/ (4 NAMES)/ (1 NAME), KOREA, 1951."
