Description
No. 42 East Street, also known as No. 24 St Alban Street, is a house with a shop that dates from the early 19th century. The building is rendered and has a slate roof that is hipped at the corner. It features a principal frontage and shop front facing St Alban Street. The property has three storeys and two windows; on the second floor, there is a 16-pane sash window and a 4-pane sash window, above two canted oriel windows with plain sashes, where the upper half has a vertical glazing bar. The ground floor boasts a full-width late 19th-century shop front with three large panes under small-paned transom lights, supported by pilasters and consoles beneath a deep fascia. This design is mirrored on the return with four wide panes. The corner of the building is cantilevered out, featuring a set-back door with a transom light. The East Street façade includes a variety of windows, including two paired sashes. To the right of the shop front is a plank door, followed by a later 20th-century door with a fanlight, which is accessed by one step. There is a brick stack to the left of the St Alban Street front. The interior has not been inspected.
