Description
44 East Street is a house in a row, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It has a rendered exterior and a slate roof, featuring two storeys, an attic, and a basement with three windows. The building has two hipped dormers with plain lights above four-pane sash windows, while the basement level has 20th-century casements. To the right, there is a 19th-century six-panel door with a two-pane transom light, framed by reeded pilasters and a wider frieze with a cornice, accessed by three stone steps with nosings. To the left, steps lead down to the basement area, which is enclosed by 20th-century railing. Above the moulded cornice in the blocking course is a wide panel with a raised centre, and to the left, there is a large gable stack. The property is set back approximately one metre from the adjacent buildings, creating a cohesive group.
