Description

Wadham Guest House is a house in a row, dating from around 1800. It has a rendered exterior and a slate roof. The building is large and grand, featuring a double mansard roof with three storeys, an attic, and a basement. The front has two windows, with six-pane flat-roofed dormers above a two-storey bow that contains eight-over-twelve-over-eight pane sash windows, all adorned with dentil cornices. To the left, there is a twelve-pane sash window on both the first and second floors. The ground floor features a bow oriel that is recessed under an overhang supported by two slender cast-iron columns, and there is a flat tripartite sash window at the basement level.

Access to the house is via six stone steps with nosings leading to a panelled door set deep in an arched reveal, featuring a plain fanlight and reeded jambs. The outer doorcase has reeded pilasters and an arch with square stops and circular embellishments. A dwarf wall with iron railings encloses the basement area, and there is a small modillion cornice above the bow, along with a blocking course and a coped parapet. The gables have raised coped verges and two rendered stacks.

The rear of the house retains its original details, including a single flat-roofed dormer with a wide twelve-pane sash window behind a coped parapet, and tripartite sash windows with glazing bars at two levels. To the right, there is a very tall staircase sash window that is three panes wide and seven panes deep. The gables at the rear are also raised and coped. The interior has not been inspected, but it is noted to have a dogleg stair with a stick balustrade opposite the entrance, along with panelled doors in moulded architraves.
