Description
No.12, Custom House Quay is a mid-19th century house with a shop, incorporating fabric from an earlier, probably late 18th century building. It is constructed of Flemish bond brick with a slate roof and a brick stack on the left end. The house has a long, straight roofline running parallel to the quay, and extends to three storeys with attics. The front facade features a one-window arrangement. The ground floor was remodelled in the mid to late 20th century. The upper floors have a two-storey canted oriel with late 19th century sash windows. A stone plat band runs along the facade, continuing the line of rusticated quoins to divide a narrow bay to the left, and an inserted 20th century second-floor window to the right is present. The interior is not documented, but is known to include a 16th century stone wall to the rear.
