Description

The Cutter Hotel is a hotel located in Weymouth, built in the early 19th century and modified and extended in the mid to late 19th century. The building is rendered and scribed with slate roofs. The main facade faces East Street, but the structure also extends to St Alban Street and includes two later ranges on the right.

The main front features three storeys, an attic, and a basement with one window. Above a small 16-pane sash window in deep reveals is a raking 4-pane casement dormer. The larger 16-pane window below has stone sills. On the ground floor, there is a wide triple sash window set in an eared and flared architrave. To the right, there is a 20th-century door with a blocked transom light in a similar surround. Above the ground-floor openings, there is a full-width sunk rectangular panel that reads "CUTTER HOTEL" in bold sans-serif raised lettering. A pavement grille on the left indicates the basement.

The building has a coped parapet. The narrow gabled return end is plain but features two plain sash windows on the ground floor, similar to those on East Street, along with a matching lettered panel above. To the right, there is a narrow four-storey range with two plain sash windows, a bold canted oriel window on the first floor, and a door with a broad four-light casement that has a transom and pilasters. Adjacent is another narrow gabled four-storey unit, which includes a flat canted two-storey plain sash bay with moulded cornices, an offset narrower oriel on the first floor, and a narrow sash window to its left. The ground floor has a panelled door on the left and a plain plank door on the right. The interior has not been inspected.
