Description

41 East Street is a house dating from around 1800, located at the end of a row of three properties and returning to St Alban Street. It features Flemish bond brickwork, which is painted at the ground floor, and has a slate double mansard roof. The building is two storeys high, with an attic and basement, and has one window. Above the tripartite 4:12:4-pane sash window with mullions, there is a three-light original flat-roofed dormer.

On the ground floor, to the right, there is a slightly bowed oriel window with 16 panes and returns, topped with a moulded cornice. Below this, part of the original basement window is visible but mostly covered by the pavement due to the area being filled. To the left, there is a blind window at the first floor above a panelled door that is accessed by four stone steps. Additional features include a fluted band above the ground-floor window, a small modillion eaves cornice, and two stacks on the right gables.

The front facing St Alban Street has a large canted oriel window with an 8:12:8-pane sash, which has a dentil cornice and a skirt centered above the first floor. To the left, there is a slightly bowed shop front with 4:16:4-pane windows. The rear of the building has two dormers and a 12-pane sash window at both the ground and first floors, along with some small extensions. The interior has not been inspected.
