Description
56 and 56A St Mary Street is a pair of houses built in the early 19th century. They are rendered with a slate roof and stand three storeys high, each featuring one window. The upper window is a 12-pane sash in a flush moulded box, while below it is an 8:12:8-pane bow oriel with dentil cornices. The late 19th-century pilaster shop fronts have bold panelled and pedimented consoles. No. 56 includes a 3-pane display window on a panelled riser with a door to the left, while No. 56A features curved quadrant glazing above a deep-set door with a transom light. Previously, there may have been either a window or a painted advertising panel at the first-floor level. Each house has brick stacks on the party walls. The interior has not been inspected.
