Description
This is a detached barn located 80 metres southwest of Lower Lewell Farmhouse, dated 1704, as indicated by the initials "IR" on the north wall of the eastern porch in vitrified headers. The barn features brick walls with bay divisions marked by two-stage buttresses, and it has eleven bays, each lit and ventilated by narrow slit lights. The roof is thatched with gable ends.
There are two porches: the eastern porch is gabled and has a moulded coping on the gable parapet, with a plain brick label above the doors; the brickwork between the label and the door head has been rebuilt. It has two-leaf plank doors. The western porch has a hipped thatch roof and also features two-leaf plank doors.
Inside, the main roof consists of eleven bays supported by collar beam trusses with halved and tenoned joints, and there are small braces on either side of the porches.
