Description

A pair of semi-detached cottages, likely dating from the 18th century, stand in West Stafford. Their construction combines cob walls, partially on a colourwashed rubble stone base, with thatched roofs. The cottages are not identical in appearance, with varying roof levels and a two-story section alongside a single-story element. A brick section with a thatched roof, incorporating a single metal casement window and a small tiled lean-to, stands at the left end. The main range, raised at a higher level and featuring brick stacks at each end, houses No. 1 with a 20th-century glazed door, and No. 2 with a single-panel door. The ground floor includes two 20th-century metal casement windows and one 18th-century casement window with leaded lights. Four 20th-century metal casements are positioned on the first floor. To the right is a lower range with two 20th-century metal casements on each floor. Finally, a single-story brick range with a hipped thatched roof – possibly a former outhouse – features a flush door.
