Description
Middle House is an attached house located on Long Street in Cerne Abbas. It features a late 18th-century refronting, with an earlier rear wing that has undergone significant alterations. The building was converted into shop premises in the 20th century and has since been re-altered for use as a private dwelling. The exterior is constructed of brick walls in Flemish bond and topped with a slate roof that has gable ends. A rebuilt brick stack is located at the right gable. The house is two storeys high and includes dormers.
The front facade has three sash windows with thin glazing bars, primarily consisting of 16 panes, with a 12-pane window situated above the front door. The ground floor displays brick blockings where former shop windows were located. The front door, originally a two-leaf door, has been modified into a single flush-panelled door featuring 16 glass panels from the 19th century. A 20th-century pediment, supported by scroll brackets, has replaced an earlier pediment.
