Description
No. 63 West Borough is a building located at the corner of West Borough and Blind Lane. It has origins dating back to the early 18th century and was enlarged in the late 18th century and 19th century. The structure features brick walls, a tiled roof, and brick stacks, and it stands two storeys tall. The original central section has a platband at the first floor level and a central doorway that has been altered to form a window. The ground floor includes two 2-light casement windows with lead lights and a later added canted bay window with double hung sashes and glazing bars. On the first floor, there are three 2-light casement windows with lead lights. A noticeable change in the brickwork above the first floor windows indicates that the roof has been raised in this area.
To the north, there is an extension that has two double hung sash windows with arched heads and glazing bars on the ground floor, along with one similar window on the first floor. The first extension to the south features a ground floor canted bay window similar to the central section, and one double hung sash window with glazing bars on the first floor. The second extension to the south, dating from the 19th century, has no windows on the ground floor but includes two double hung sash windows with glazing bars on the first floor. At the rear, the original section is accompanied by a two-storey extension made of brick and tile. A brick boundary wall surrounds the site and extends into Blind Lane. This building is considered significant in the street and is believed to have originally served as a toll-house.
