Description
No. 72 Salter Street is a building that was originally two houses but is now one. It likely dates from the early 18th century and has had some later additions and alterations. The structure is made of reddish-brown brick, with render on the right gable end, and features a gabled roof covered in plain tiles.
The exterior consists of two storeys and has four windows on the first floor. There is a 20th-century glazed door located to the left of the centre and another similar door to the right of the centre. The windows include a 6/6 fixed-light window set under an elliptical arch, and a canted bay with metal casements that have glazing bars. These two openings and the doorways are sheltered by a continuous pentice roof. To the right, there is an 8/8 sash window also under an elliptical arch. On the first floor, there are two-light casement windows with glazing bars throughout, and the building features a modillion cornice, a ridge, and a right external stack.
Inside, there is an inglenook fireplace with a bressumer beam visible in the second room, along with exposed beams and joists; however, the interior has not been fully inspected. The building forms a group with the nearby stables and cart shed.
