Description

Salter Street Farmhouse is a moated farmhouse, later adapted as a house, dating back to the 17th century, with additions and alterations from the 18th and 19th centuries, and restorations around the 1980s. It is constructed with a mix of materials: the north cross-wing features small square panels of timber framing with plaster and brick infill, while the rest of the building is predominantly reddish-brown brick. The roofs are gabled and covered in plain tiles. The building forms an irregular L-shape, comprising a two-bay range to the south, a range with a rear extension, and a north cross-wing alongside.

The two-storey and attic structure has a central range with 20th-century glazed French windows, with the exception of a full-height staircase window featuring 2-light casements under an elliptical arch on the left side. The first floor of the centre range has a 4-course first-floor band and a 2-light 20th-century casement under an elliptical arch. A roof dormer with a 20th-century casement is also present. The north cross-wing, which has a gable end facing the front, has no openings on its facade. The range to the left (south) includes dentil eaves, a gable on kneelers above the staircase window, and a roof dormer to the return side under a hipped roof. The front, rear, and ridge of the building have stacks. The rear elevation is characterised by 20th-century casement windows, many of which are set under elliptical arches.

The interior of the farmhouse was not inspected during the listing assessment. It forms a group with The Yarnolds.
