Description
The garden wall, which is the remains of a former dwelling, is located to the west of No 47 on Southwell Street. It dates back to the 17th century and is constructed from large squared blocks with loam jointing, rising to approximately 2.2 meters from the pavement. On the left side, there is a former doorway that has been blocked with dry-set stone blocks and retains two stone steps. In the center, there is a 2-light hollow-chamfer stone-mullioned window, which features a moulded and stopped drip above it. At the right end, the masonry stops at the remains of a door jamb. The wall has a short return at the left end, indicating the former quality of buildings in Southwell, which underwent significant rebuilding in the late 19th and 20th centuries.
